Surface Preparation
Surface preparation is the process of removing contaminants from surfaces before applying coatings. The surfaces are usually metal, aluminum or concrete and include tunnels, large storage tanks (internal and external), cooling towers, structural steel or any hard surface.

Surface preparation is the single most important factor that determines the performance of the coating for any given paint system. Depending on the requirements of the paint system and the substrate, various surface preparation methods are applied. .
Surface preparation requires special pre-planning and evaluation of potential hazards before work can begin. The most popular are mechanical methods using Ultra High Pressure (UHP), water blasting and abrasive blasting.
PCiRoads follows the Steel Structures Painting Council (SSPC) standard as the most important surface preparation standard available.
